NanoMag Achievements

  1. Training of young scientists who were given the opportunity to upgrade their experimental and professional skills in cutting edge research and technologies.
  2. Discovery of a structural phase transition and of a new phase boundary, driven by checkerboard polarons, in the paramagnetic phase of CMR manganites.
  3. Implementation of secondary sonochemical procedure, a new synthetic approach for the synthesis of pure nanocrystalline soft magnetic Fe-Co alloy nanoparticles.
  4. An innovative environmental friendly “green synthesis” process has been implemented for the fabrication of L10 FePt nanoparticles.
  5. Synthesis and characterization of hematite nanoparticles with peculiar “nano-medusa” morphology, that remain ferromagnetic in a wide temperature range extending from well above room temperature (930K) down to 2K.
  6. Discovery of unexpected surface orbital magnetism on Bi-rich Bi2Se3 nanoplatelets.
  7. Synthesis and detailed investigation of Sm-Co nanoparticles and Sm2Co7, SmCo5 or Sm2Co17 hard single phases by appropriate manipulation of the amount and ratio of the starting materials Sm2O3 and Co.
  8. Fabrication of magnetic graphene oxide paper (sample Fe-GO(paper)).
  9. Elucidation of the optimum milling conditions for the fabrication of Nd2Fe14B nanoparticles with magnetic properties comparable to those of bulk.
  10. Detection of uncommon behavior on the SAR vs H plots of monodispersed and polydispersed magnetic fluids prepared by thermal decomposition and coprecipitation respectively and identification of a field dependent optimal iron oxide concentration with a remarkably high SAR value.
