Dr. Antonia Malainou has a Bsc in Material Science Engineering (2004, University of Ioannina) and Msc in “Microsystems and Nanodevices” (2006, National Technical University of Athens). In 2013 she received her PhD from University of Ioannina, Faculty of Material Science Engineering. Her PhD was elaborated in NCSR “Demokritos” in the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology while holding a fellowship from NCSR “Demokritos”. Her Phd thesis entitled “Patterning and chemical modification of substrates for biochip fabrication in bio-nanotechnolgy applications”. Some of Phd thesis achievements were part of the team work of the research group Plasma Nanotechnology in NCSR "Demokritos", which was awarded (2nd Prize for Applied Research, September 2013) in the competition "Greece Innovates" in the Innovation Contest of the Hellenic Federation of Industries (SEV) and Eurobank. Since 2013 she works in NCSR “Demokritos” as Post-doc researcher at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Her research interests are focused on Bio-MEMS (Lab-On-a-Chip, Point-Of-Care), optical biosensors, microfluidic devices (design and fabrication), biomolecule microarrays, clean room processing, lithography, patterning techniques in micro/nano-scale, plasma processing, surface modification techniques focusing on biomolecule immobilization/binding, surface characterization, polymeric and composite materials.
