Mr. Gianluca Toniolo achieved his Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology in March 2015 at the University of Ferrara (Italy) with an experimental thesis under the supervision of Prof. Alessandro Massi. The project was focused on the modification of bile acids scaffold via click chemistry reactions. A new synthetic strategy for the synthesis of a small collection of bile acid-bisphosphonate conjugates was developed, permitting the synthesis of both mono- and bi-functionalized bile acid-bisphosphonate derivatives.
After graduation, he continued at the University of Ferrara to conclude his thesis project.
He is currently enrolled as PhD student in Chemistry, with a joint project between Università degli studi di Ferrara and the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INN) of the National Center for Scientific Research (N.C.S.R.) “Demokritos”, Athens (Greece) in the frame of the H2020 European Training Network “ClickGene” under the supervision of Dr. Chryssostomos Chatgilialoglu (Free Radicals in Bio- and Nano-Technology Group). He will be involved in nanocarrier development for antitumoral gene silencing therapies.
