Athanasekos received his degree in Physics in 2001, from University of Ioannina, Greece and his MSc degree in “Photonics and Optoelectronic Devices”, from Heriot-Watt University and University of St.Andrews, Scotland, UK. He received his PhD (2014), entitled: “Development and investigation of microstructures by use of laser for photonic applications” from University of Patras, Materials Science Department. He has been working in scientific research projects in National Hellenic Research Foundation for over 10 years. He is currently a post-doc fellow in N.C.S.R. "DEMOKRITOS", Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. His research interests include, inter alia, photonic remote sensors, laser micro/nanopatterning and sculpturing and nanostructures formation for photonic applications, while, recently, he has been focused on silicon nitride waveguides and optical resonators. He is author/coauthor of 11 publications in scientific journals, book chapter and over 30 conference presentations.
