TRANSPORT OF MATTER PHENOMENA IN POLYMERS – About the Group

TRANSPORT OF MATTER PHENOMENA IN POLYMERS

The Laboratory was founded in the early 1960’s by John H. Petropoulos (1935-2017). Under his guidance the group, over the years, contributed to many fields of the science of transport phenomena: Sorption and diffusion of gases in porous solids , of ionic species in charged membranes and of macromolecules in polymeric media; Diffusion theory in nonhomogeneous media; computer simulation studies.

At present research focuses on micromolecular sorption and transport in polymeric materials by a combination of theoretical and experimental approaches. The aim of this work is to help create the basic scientific background for the optimization of the design of polymeric materials for important applications (controlled release systems, permselective membranes, chemical sensors etc).
