Dr Christophoros Christophoridis has received a bachelor degree in Chemistry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He completed his studies with a MSc in Environmental Chemistry and a PhD in the removal of inorganic and organic pollutants from groundwater, using Permeable Reactive Barriers (PRBs). During his studies he has worked on many parallel projects in the field of environmental analytical chemistry. He has received scholarships and awards from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation and the Onassis Foundation. He was also selected to participate in the 59th Lindau Nobel Laureates meeting, based on his academic record.
He has worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Technical University of Munich, gaining experience in the field of electrochemical degradation of pollutants and the structure elucidation of transformation by-products. Following that, he continued his work as a post-doctoral researcher at the National University of Athens, Department of Chemistry, on the ozonolysis of selected pollutants and the determination of their transformation products using HRMS. Since February 2014, he has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the “Catalytic-Photocatalytic Processes and Environmental Analysis Laboratory, Institute of Nanoscience – Nanotechnology”, NCSR “Demokritos”, on the development of analytical methods for the determination of cyanotoxins in environmental samples and the preparation and characterization of composite photocatalytic materials.
