About/Biography
.Merope Sanopoulou received her B.Sc degree in Chemistry from the University of Athens and her Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the same institution in 1984, having conducted her thesis at the Inst. of Physical Chemistry at NCSR “DEMOKRITOS’ under the supervision of Dr. J.H. Petropoulos. She then joined the same Inst. as a researcher, currently being Head of the Laboratory of Transport of Matter Phenomena in Polymers at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. She has been engaged in extensive experimental and modelling studies of sorption and diffusion in polymer films and membranes, with emphasis to the elucidation of underlying mechanisms responsible for non-Fickian transport kinetics of vapors or liquids in glassy polymers. Her research interests also include release mechanisms and kinetics of controlled drug delivery systems, the permeability, mechanical and thermal properties of polymers and polymer composites, and polymer-based chemical sensors for VOC detection and monitoring. She is the author/co-author of more than 75 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has been key researcher or project leader in various National and EU research projects.
