Herisktage aims at the development of digital tool, integrated in an IoT platform, for the real time, continuous and remote monitoring of the microclimate of cultural heritage monuments, as well as the associated risks, in selected cultural heritage sites of Greece. The platform will combine and process:
• local scale, high resolution climate scenarios, for the next 50 and 100 years
• data for the microclimate of the monuments, such as temperature, humidity and air quality, through a nationwide network of wireless sensors,
• laboratory-scale data, on the durability of building and decorative materials, in order to predict the risk factor for future deterioration of each monument.
This approach of studying climate change impacts at the local scale, takes into account the specific needs of the cultural heritage monuments, their specific characteristics and weathering process, their building materials and construction technology, as well as the wider environmental characteristics of the surrounding area, helping more detailed planning of preventive actions.
