ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY
Dr Frank Hulek is a Classical Archaeologist with a strong interest in Mining Archaeology and Archaeometallurgy. Under the supervison of Dr Yannis Bassiakos, he is currently implementing the interdisciplinary Marie Skłodowska Curie project LauriCon (Laurion Contacts combined geological and archaeological study) at N.C.S.R. Demokritos.
His doctoral thesis on the architecture of a newly discovered ancient Ionian temple in Asia Minor, which he defended at Ruhr University Bochum in 2014, was awarded the prestigious travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute. From 2015 to 2023, he worked as a lecturer (non-tenured) and course coordinator for the Institute for Archaeology at the University of Cologne. In addition to traditional methods of excavation, building research and field surveys, he also uses scientific, i.e. archaeometric, techniques in his research. He has published his research findings in two monographs and several articles, and has also edited the proceedings of two conferences.
