ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY

He is a conservator with experience in archaeological and built heritage. He holds an MSc in Conservation Studies from University College London (UCL Qatar), and a BA in Archaeological Conservation from the University of West Attica (former Technological Educational Institute of Athens).

Theocharis joined the Ceramics and Composite Materials Research Group in 2024 to support the research activities on assessing the impacts of climate change on heritage sites and monuments (i.e. HeRISKtage project). His work also focusses on the study and characterization of porous building materials for the design of context-appropriate conservation treatments (i.e. bespoke projects).

Concurrently, he is pursuing his PhD in collaboration with the University of West Attica, looking at decay, and how it is perceived in architectural remains through the lenses of climate change, materials science, and social sciences.

Prior to that, he worked at the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) for the Heritage Science and Preventive Conservation programmes; and at ICCROM-Sharjah (Regional Conservation Centre in the UAE) to help with capacity building programme development in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. As a practicing conservator, he has worked on heritage conservation projects in Greece and Southern Europe as well as the Middle East and North Africa Region. From 2017 to 2025, he served the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM Foundation) as an elected member on its Executive Board, from the capacity of the Treasurer.
