ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY

Dr Kyriaki Papadokostaki was born in Heraklion, Crete and graduated from the Chemistry Department of the National University of Athens in 1979. At the same year, she earned a scholarship from NCSR “Demokritos”, where she worked as a post-graduate student under the supervision of Dr J. H. Petropoulos in the area of diffusion in polymers. She received her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Athens in 1986. From 1986 to 1995 she continued working at “Demokritos” as a collaborating researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Technology and Radiation Protection (in the framework of a European Research Project for the management and storage of radioactive waste) and at the Laboratory of Transport of Matter Phenomena in Polymers of the Institute of Physical Chemistry. In 1995 she was appointed as a staff Researcher at the Institute of Physical Chemistry. Since 2012 she is a research director at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the NCSR “Demokritos”, currently being head of the group of Transport of Matter Phenomena in Polymers. She has authored or co-authored more than 55 publications in international refereed journals and 4 book chapters. She has also successfully supervised 4 PhD and 4 Master theses and participated in various funded research projects. Her research interests include: sorption and diffusion of micromolecules in polymeric materials; controlled release of drugs and other bioactive solutes from matrix-type systems; elucidation of drug release mechanisms; multicomponent transport in polymers; sorption and diffusion of ions in polymers and porous media; thermal analysis; characterization of polymers and their blends or composites.
