ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY

Dr. George Kokkoris is a Research Associate at the Institute of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (INN). He received the BSc in Chemical Engineering (1998) from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), the MSc in Microelectronics from the department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2000), and the PhD from the school of Chemical Engineering of NTUA (2005).

He has received a 4-year scholarship for postgraduate studies and a 2-year scholarship for post-doctoral research. He received the 1st prize for Chemical Engineers for his bachelor’s thesis (Development of a shortcut model for distillation columns) from the technical chamber of Greece in 1998.

From 2005 to 2014, he was with the Institute of Microelectronics of NCSR Demokritos and the School of Chemical Engineering of NTUA and from 2014 till now he is with INN. He is a member of the editorial board of Coatings and Micromachines and editor in 2 special issues in Micromachine. He serves as regular reviewer in more than 20 peer-reviewed journals and has served as evaluator in Research Foundation Flanders.

He has participated in 19 national (9) and European (10) projects (principal investigator in 2 of them). He is co-inventor of 3 patent families, author or co-author of 72 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 15 articles in peer-reviewed Conference Proceedings (1813 citations and h-index=22, google scholar / 1403 citations, h-index=20, scopus), 3 articles in special editions, and more than 110 conference communications (8 invited). He was a co-founder of a spin-out company (DXonBoard, Diagnostics-on-board). He installed a computer cluster at INN in 2013 and has supported its upgrade and operation since then.

He teaches or has taught in 6 courses (Simulation of processes and device, computational methods, microfluidics, plasma processes, fabrication processes of micro- and nanosystems) of 3 post-graduate programs (Microsystems and Nanodevices, Microelectronics, Mathematical modeling in modern technology and economics). He has supervised or supervises 7 PhD and 20 Master theses.

His research interests include plasma processing at atmospheric pressure for agricultural applications, multiscale modeling and simulation of processes and phenomena, microfluidic devices (e.g., microreactors for DNA amplification and micromixers) and Lab-on-a-Chip systems, plasma etching and chemical vapor deposition processes for microelectronics and nanofabrication, and wetting behavior and condensation on patterned and rough surfaces.
