ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Provata obtained her Bachelor Degree in Physics from the University of Athens in 1985. In the same year she joint the Physics Department of Boston University, where she obtained a Masters degree in Physics in 1987 and a PhD degree in Statistical Physics in 1991. At Boston University she did analytical and numerical studies of anomalous diffusion and growth processes as a result of the influence of long range correlations. After completing her PhD, she accepted a postdoctoral position at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, where she worked for 4 years in the group of Prof. G. Nicolis. During this period she worked in the field of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, with specific applications in reaction-diffusion systems. In 1995 he jointed the Institute of Physical Chemistry of NCSR "Demokritos", as a Researcher C level (Junior Researcher). In 2004 she started a new activity within the Institute, the "Statistical Mechanics and Complex Dynamical Systems Laboratory” (STAT-DYN) INN_GROUP_STATISTICAL_MECHANICS_AND_DYNAMICAL_SYSTEMS, which conducts basic and applied research in the fields of Non-linear Dynamics, Statistical Physics and Complex Systems with applications in the domains of Brain Dynamics, Complex Networks, Bioinformatics, Reactions-Diffusion Systems, Fractals and Long Range Correlations. Between 2009-2014, she acted as founding member and first Coordinator of the Complex Systems and Applications (COSA) Network (COSA-Net){PLEASE add link: “http://cosa.inn.demokritos.gr/” }, which is a multidisciplinary network of the Greek scientists working in the field of Complex Systems.
Currently she holds the position of Researcher A (Research Director) at the Institute of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, NCSR "Demokritos", and is the Director the STAT-DYN laboratory.
She is the author/co-author of ~110 publications in peer reviewed journals, 25 publications in conference proceedings and book chapters and is editor to 4 collected volumes. She has more than 160 invited presentations in international conferences, universities and academic institutes. She has organized 10 international conference and workshops and holds open external collaborations with the Universities of Athens & Crete-Greece, the Ionian the Universite Libre de Bruxelles-Belgium, the Technishe Univarsitaet Berlin-Germany, the Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg-Germany, the University of Essex-UK and the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, New York, USA.University at Corfu-Greece.
