ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Maria-Malvina Stathouraki graduated from the Chemistry Department of the University of Athens (BSc 2013, MSc 2015) and received her PhD degree in the field of polymer science in 2020 from the University of Athens. Her PhD research was funded by the National Scholarships Foundation (NSF). Dr Stathouraki has long experience in polymer synthesis and analysis using HPLC and Size Exclusion Chromatography, Static and Dynamic Scattering, Thermal Analysis, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, IR and NMR Spectroscopy, viscometry and contact angle techniques. She has been involved in grafting “to” techniques for grafting polymers to carbon nanotubes and graphene oxide and in polycondensation Kumada. She also has been involved in synthesis of linear block and star copolymers with high Flory-Huggins (χ) parameter so that low molar mass polymers allow for the formation of very small sizes structures in microphase-separation. The techniques she has used for these projects include anionic polymerization, Ring Opening Polymerization, Atom Tranfer Radical Polymerization and Kumada polycondersation. Currently, she works as postdoctoral researcher at Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INN) of NCSR Demokritos and she is involved in synthesis and characterization of inorganic silica / polyethyleneimine nanoparticles for use in marine antifouling paints. She has published 2 papers in international journal and she has presented 2 posters in Hellenic conferences.
