Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy

CCM Research Group is equipped with a Thermo Scientific Νicolet Summit Χ FT-IR Spectrometer, for the molecular identification of a wide range of organic and inorganic materials in liquid, film, powder and solid form.

The instrument is equipped with different purpose-built accessories, for performing measurements Transmission, Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) through the AR Diamond Crystal Plate and External Reflectance (Specular and Diffuse (DRIFT) through the model UpIR. Those accessories offer solutions for different analytical requirements for a wide range of materials and applications, providing insights into their composition, state of preservation and effects of degradation processes.

Applications

Analysis of multilayered, composite samples of inorganic/organic composition, such as wall paintings that consist of pigments, paint mediums and mortar substrates.  Analysis of polymers in the form of liquid, film, pellet, filament, 3D printed objects for chemical characterization and assessment of solvent retention.
