“Low-Cost Carbon Nanotubes Photodetectors” ($CNTPD) is a national research project, which has received funding from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) and the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) (formerly known as General Secretariat for Research and Technology – GSRT) under grant agreement 157446/Ι2/21-9-2018. $CNTPD research is held in National Center for Research and Development “Demokritos” (NCSRD) and was proposed during HFRI’s 1st Call for Projects for the support of Post-Doctoral Researchers.

The project aims towards the fabrication of low-cost single pixel electronic detectors based on Multi-Wall Carbon Nano-Tubes (MWCNTs) and  semiconductor manufacturing techniques with the best possible performance when measuring radiation outside the visible spectra. In addition, the project aims to pave the way towards simple and easily implemented commercial applications. These wide goals can break up in the following simpler ones:

  1. Prove that the concept of a single pixel electronic detector based on MWCNTs/semiconductor (Si) heterojunction is feasible.
  2. Optimize performance by research on fabrication parameters or design architecture.
  3. Define the limits of miniaturization of the proposed device.
  4. Build a standalone demonstration photodetector for connection with a handheld device, i.e. a smartphone.
