In addition, he was visiting research scientist at IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, Switzerland in 2006 and 2007. In the period 2016-2018, he had been appointed as LANEF Chair of Excellence at CEA-INAC and U. Grenoble Alpes, France for the development of “2D transition metal dichalcogenide materials”. In 2020 he has been elected full Professor of experimental condensed matter Physics in the Physics Department of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Dr. Dimoulas has coordinated 10 European-funded projects in the areas of advanced CMOS and post-CMOS nanoelectronics. Also, he has received the ERC Advanced Investigator Grant 2011 SMARTGATE and ERC Proof of Concept GR-GATE dealing with graphene and topological insulators at the gate of MOS devices for low power electronics and the Greek Excellence (ARISTEIA) project TOP ELECTRONICS. Currently, he is coordinating HORIZON EUROPE project 2D-ENGINE of the Graphene flagship initiative focusing on new 2D phases of ultrathin semiconductor and insulator materials for the ultimate scaling of (opto)electronic devices. He is also participating in 3 HORIZON EUROPE collaborative projects focusing on the development of ferroelectric memristors for neuromorphic computing technologies, coordinating one of them, namely JU-CHIPS project ViTFOX which is an EU-South Korea collaboration targeting next generation AI chips. He is also the director of a Romanian research team at NIMP, Bucharest in the framework of the Romanian Recovery and Resilience Plan project ARSYF.

Dr. Dimoulas has authored or co-authored 231 technical presentations in refereed journals and archives, including 3 monographs in Springer book chapters on high-k gates on Si and high mobility channels. In addition, he has more than 80 presentations in conferences including 72 keynote and invited in conferences, tutorials and summer schools. Based on Google Scholar database, Dr. Dimoulas has 8450 citations, h –index 51, i10-index 154. He is included in 2023 and 2024 and 2025 Stanford list of top 2% scientists in their field (Applied Physics/Nanoscience and Nanotechnology) based on c-score. He is co-editor in a Springer book on “High-k gate dielectric” and an CRC (Taylor& Francis) book on “2D Materials for Nanoelectronics” as well as guest editor in three special volumes of international journals. He has organized relevant MRS and EMRS symposia in 2005, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2013 and 2019 and he was the general chair of INFOS 2007 conference and the topological Matter conference in 2021, Athens. He has served in the steering committees of INFOS and ESSDERC/ESSCIRC conferences and he has chaired the TPC committee of ESSDERC/ESSCIRC 2009 and the Process Technology subcommittee of IEDM 2012 conferences. His expertise includes MBE growth of semiconductors, dielectrics and 2D elemental and transition metal dichalcogenide materials, CVD growth of graphene, nanodevice processing by optical and e-beam lithography, materials characterization by XPS, ARPES and STM, magnetooptical characterization by Kerr microscopy and magnetometry and ferroelectric memory electrical characterization.

Dr. Dimoulas has been nominated for the 2025 IEEE Andy Grove award. He has served as a deputy member of the general assembly of the Greek Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI) for two years (2016-2017), he is in the coordination board of Graphene Flagship initiative and and he is currently representing NCSRD as member of the general assembly and co-leader of task force 4 of IAM-I an EU private-public partnership on advanced materials.
