Physical and chemical characterization of archaeological mortars and building materials

Based on the expertise and the long-lasting involvement of the CCM researchers in archaeological and architectural conservation/restoration projects, the Laboratory of Archaeological and Building Materials provides analytical and consulting services.

This service is aimed at those who work on the conservation archaeological sites and historic buildings: architects, surveyors, engineers, conservators, contractors and conservation officers, but also owners, curators, researchers, as well as Archaeological Ephorates and public authorities.

The services provided focus on the physical, chemical and mechanical characterization of archaeological and building materials, with particular emphasis in mortars, natural stones and porous building materials.

The exploitation of the data collected through analysis are used for the design and development of sustainable, energy-efficient conservation mortars and injection grouts.
