ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY
Constantinos M. Paleos was born in 1941, Chios, Greece, and studied Chemistry from 1960 to 1964 at the Universities of Salonica and Athens, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Chemistry. He received his Ph.D. at Drexel University in Philadelphia, USA, under the supervision of Prof. M. M. Labes for studies on the Reactivity in Liquid Crystalline Media. In 1973, after three years with Amoco Chemicals (Illinois) and Motor Oil (Athens), he joined the Department of Chemistry at NRC “Demokritos” in Athens, and he was elected Director of the Institute of Physical Chemistry at NCSR “Demokritos” for the periods 1994-1999 and 2001-2007, up to his retirement. In the periods 1994-1996 and 2005-2006 he was also elected vice-president of the Demokritos Board. In 1991-1992 he was visiting professor at Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg. His main research activities and interests are in the area of “Nanomaterials of Supramolecular Organized Structure” including the formation and characterization of novel liquid crystals, molecular recognition of liposomal aggregates, development of materials through non-covalent interactions of complementary molecules. He is also involved in the preparation and characterization of functional micelles, dendritic polymers and liposomes and in the development of drug and gene delivery systems and also molecular transporters. His scientific work has been included in patents and in over 180 publications, as original articles and reviews in prestigious Journals of high Impact Factor.
Dr C. M. Paleos was the founder and for many years head of the Laboratory for Nanomaterials of Organized Supramolecular Structure. A tribute to his lifelong dedication to scientific research can be found along with his CV.
