ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY
Dr. George Mitrikas was born in 1970 in Athens, Greece. He graduated from the University of Ioannina, Greece, obtaining his B.Sc. in Physics, in 1993. For his doctoral thesis, carried out at the Institute of Materials Science (IMS) of NCSR Demokritos, he studied the relaxation properties of metallic nanoparticles by pulsed Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) methods. He obtained his PhD from the Department of Physics, University of Ioannina, in 2000. He spent one year as a post-doctoral fellow at IMS and then moved to the Department of Physical Chemistry, ETH Zurich, where he joined the EPR group of Prof. Arthur Schweiger (2001-2006). During his post-doctoral stay at ETH he contributed to the development of new pulsed EPR methods towards characterization of transition metal complexes with applications in chemistry, biology, and materials science. In 2007 he returned to IMS as an invited researcher where he was appointed as a Researcher C level in 2008. Since then he initiated a research project involving the implementation of pulsed EPR spectroscopy and the development of new hybrid electron-nuclear spin systems with relevant properties to quantum computing. Currently he holds the position of Researcher A (Research Director) at the Institute of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, NCSR "Demokritos", and his research interests include pulsed EPR methodology for sensitivity and resolution enhancement, spectroscopic characterization of paramagnetic species, and spin-based quantum computing. He is the author of 45 publications in peer reviewed journals (> 1000 citations, h-index 18, December 2021), 38 publications in conference proceedings and 1 book chapter. He was member of the local organizing committee of the international magnetic resonance conference EUROMAR 2013 (Crete, Greece, June 30 to July 5, 2013).
