ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Evangelos P. Favvas is Senior Researcher at INN, NCSR "Demokritos". Evangelos P. Favvas was born in 1978 in Neapoli, Lakonia, Greece. He graduated from the Kavala Institute of Technology, obtaining the Degree of Petroleum Engineer in 2002. In 2002, he entered the Postgraduate Programme “Polymer Science and Applications” (2 years), University of Athens, and obtained his M.Phil. Degree in 2004. In 2010, he obtained his Ph.D. entitled "Study of polymeric and carbon hollow fiber membranes on gas separation applications" from the Department of Chemistry, University of Athens.

From 2007-2017 was a permanent Research Officer at the INN in NCSR “Demokritos”, specifically as a member of Materials and Membranes for Environmental Separations Laboratory (MESL). From February 2017 he is Senior Researcher in the same Institute.

His research interests embrace the experimental study of gas separation using membranes and sorbents as well as the insitu study of condensation process using combination of X-ray scattering and adsorption techniques. He has also extended experience in the area of preparation and evaluation of new hybrid porous materials (metal doped silica based materials, CNTs, graphene, etc.) with emphasis on energy and environmental applications. The development of new methods for the gaseous nanobubbles preparation and the investigation of their properties in the surface and colloidal science is also a branch of his scientific interests.

He is author and co-author of 74 papers in peer review international journals (>2000 citations, h-index: 21) and 6 book chapters. He is the co-editor of the book series “Current Trends and Future Developments on (Bio-) Membranes”, 1st Edition, “Carbon Dioxide Separation/Capture by Using Membranes”, Elsevier Publisher, 2018, Paperback ISBN: 9780128136454 and now (Spring-Summer 2022) he is editing a new book (Elsevier) entitled “Modern Approaches in Membrane Technology”.

He is also inventor of 2 National and 3 International (WIPO/US Patent Office) patents and he has participated in 85 international and national conferences. In addition, he is member of the editorial board of 6 international journals, he is Associate editor in “Membrane Applications - Gas and Vapor”, Frontiers, and he has served as Guest Editor in journals such as “Nanomaterials”, “Int. J. of Hydrogen Energy”, “Int. J. Greenh. Gas Control.”. He is also member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
