ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY
Ms Efthimiadou was born in 1979 in Farsala, Larisa, Greece. She graduated from National and Kapodistrian University of Athens as Chemist as well as her MSc and PhD. She worked for 9 years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Sol Gel Laboratory at the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of NCSR "D" developing nanomaterials for theranostic applications like polymeric nanocontainers, inorganic and hybrid nanoparticles. Her main research focus was on new functional nanotechnology materials, their application in the development of innovative drug delivery and controlled drug delivery systems, and the treatment of cancer.
During these years she participated as the PI in many research projects representing both, the Department of Chemistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of NCSR Demokritos. As part of the research, she has developed magnetic nanoparticles against cancer, inflammation and atherosclerotic plaque. The team consists of 21 people, 2 postdoctoral researchers, 6 PhD candidates, 8 postgraduate students and 5 undergraduate students who are preparing their dissertation. Her research funded by National and European agencies. During this period she published 27 articles in the field of nanotechnology and their applications.
