ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Elias Sakellis received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Physics, University of Athens. He is Assistant Professor in the department of Physics in National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and a Research Associate at the Electron Microscopy and Nanomaterials Lab (EMNL) of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INN) at the National Centre For Scientific Research Demokritos. His research centers on the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials—using electron-beam physical vapor deposition (e-beam PVD) and chemical/electrochemical routes—and on their structural, electrical, and optical properties for electronic and photonic applications. He also focuses on energy storage, particularly supercapacitors, developing innovative electrode architectures to improve power density and cycling stability. He is the co-author of more than 110 research papers with more than 1700 citations (h-index 21) and has extensive experience with electrical measurements across a wide range of materials. He also has expertise in structural, crystallographic, and electronic-structure characterization of nanostructures using SEM, TEM, HRTEM, and EELS, as well as dielectric-relaxation measurements as a function of temperature and pressure. He has co-supervised several graduate and postgraduate students and three PhD candidates. His teaching activities include delivering lectures and lab sections to undergraduate and graduate levels at the Physics Department and lab sections to the undergraduate students of the Geological Department of the University of Athens, as well as co-teaching in NTUA’s MSc Microsystems & Nanodevices program, within Laboratory Techniques for Nanomaterials and in NTUA’s MSc Physics & Technological Applications program, within Experimental Methods (Condensed Matter & Optoelectronics)
