ABOUT/BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Fotis Katsaros was born in Athens in 1969. He obtained his Degree in Chemistry from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) in 1991 and subsequently joined the Institute of Physical Chemistry at NCSR “Demokritos” as a PhD fellow. He was awarded a scholarship in 1993 and received his PhD in Chemistry from NKUA in 2000. Following his doctoral studies, he worked as a research fellow in the Materials and Membranes for Environmental Separations Laboratory of the Institute of Physical Chemistry at NCSR “Demokritos.” From 2001 to 2006, he served as a permanent scientist at the same institute. In 2006, he was elected Researcher at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, and since 2015, he has been serving as Research Director in the Materials and Membranes for Environmental Separations Laboratory of the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, NCSR “Demokritos.”
His current research interests include:
- Synthesis and characterization of nanoporous materials
- Design and development of nanoparticles
- Preparation of adsorbents, catalysts/photocatalysts, and nanofillers for environmental applications, as well as energy storage and conversion
- Nano-structuring of materials to enhance sensing and catalytic performance
- Application of laser and plasma techniques for nanomaterial surface functionalization
- Development of CHADA frameworks and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for nanomaterial characterization
Dr. Katsaros is co-author of 85 peer-reviewed publications (>4,500 citations, h-index: 33), 4 book chapters, and 4 patents. He has delivered more than 20 invited talks and over 120 presentations at national and international conferences and proceedings.
Over his 25-year research career, he has participated in approximately 18 European and national research projects. He coordinated the NEXT-GEN-CAT project (FP7-NMP-2011-SMALL-5) on the development of novel PGM-free autocatalysts and served as scientific coordinator of the PARTIAL-PGMs project (H2020-NMP-2014-2015). He currently coordinates the EU-funded AEROSOLS project and the HFRI-funded RESILIENCE project.
Dr. Katsaros also serves as an evaluator for scientific projects (EU, Greece, Cyprus) and is a member of the Editorial Board of Materials (MDPI), Catalytic Materials section. Additionally, he participates to the CEN/TC 352 committee on nanotechnologies.
