ABOUT

The Circuits and Devices for Sensor Networks and Systems group is part of the Nanoelectronics, Photonics & Microsystems Program which revolves around a unique national silicon nanofabrication processing lab in a clean room area of 300 sq. meters capable of sub-10nm nanopatterning. As part of this program, the group seeks to develop innovative micro- electro- mechanical systems (MEMS) which will be fit to serve critical applications mainly (but not only) in the life sciences and the medical field. To this end, we study the properties and the processing of nanomaterials, “soft materials” such as polymers as well as silicon – being the backbone of micro/nano- electronics. We strive to develop processes which will enable us to make the most of their unique characteristics and allow us to pattern them and combine them into new innovative smart devices. We further aim to develop and complement these devices with the electronics necessary to implement meaningful practical microsystems. This work thus combines fundamental studies of materials with smart engineering and builds on the interchange of ideas between the two. Our current research focuses on Lab-on-Chip and microfluidic devices, soft materials for conformal sensors and microelectromechanical systems in general with an emphasis on integrated technologies. These efforts are highly multidisciplinary, and require expertise from many different fields of study.
