Dr. Michael Arkas was born in 1970, in Athens, Greece. He studied Chemistry at the University of Ioannina (1988-92) and obtained his PhD (University of Athens) working in the area of quaternary ammonium liquid crystals under the supervision of Dr. C. M. Paleos in NCSR “Demokritos”. During these years (1992-1997) he has been for two periods a visiting postgraduate student at the “Institut de Physique et de Chimie des Materiaux de Strasbourg”, CNRS, France. He continued his work as project scientist in the frameworks of research programs funded by European Union and joined the Institute of Physical Chemistry of NCSR “Demokritos” in 2007 as special scientific personnel in the Laboratory of “Nanomaterials of organized supramolecular structure”. He is the co-author of 22 publications in peer-reviewed journals 3 chapters in books and co-inventor of 4 patents. His research interests focus in the fields of liquid crystals water purification using hybrid organic-inorganic materials.
